Chemistry Field Trip....

.... to the E.R.

(Stole the title from one of B's friends who shared this event with him.  I thought it was too perfect a title not to copy.)

Tuesday, B's Chemistry class had just started when a white cloud was seen in the lab room.  The Chemistry teacher called the office to report the incident and try to explain to the office what was going on, fearing that the office might "freak out".  This set into motion a series of events that included the following:

-  B's Chem class being evacuated to the media center.
-  The complete 3rd floor being evacuated to the auditorium.
-  The 2nd floor also being evacuated and everyone moved to the gym because there were too many students to fit in the auditorium.
-  That whole end of the building being evacuated to the gym.
-  Emergency personnel arriving on the scene.
-  B and his classmates pulled from the gym to answer questions and have their vitals checked.
-  B and his classmates returning to the gym.
-  B and his classmates being pulled from the gym, when more emergency personnel arrived, to have their vitals taken again.
-  B and his classmates returning to the gym.
-  B and his classmates pulled from the gym a third time when even more emergency personnel arrived.
-  6 Fire trucks and 3 ambulances parked at the school.
-  B and his classmates being pulled from the gym a 4th time to be told that they were going to be taken to the 3 closest hospitals.  (15 students, 5 in each of 3 ambulances.)
-  The newspapers and news stations reporting that 15 students and 1 teacher were "rushed" to the hospital.  If "rushing" means leaving the school property almost 1.5 hours after the initial event then I guess you could call that "rushing".
-  B being admitted to the E.R. so the nurse could check his oxygen saturation and speak with poison control.
-  My phone ringing off the hook with automated calls from the school and real calls from the school and the hospital alerting me to the situation and its progress.
-  B hanging out in the E.R. for almost an hour until I could come and bring him home.

Here is B in the ambulance with two of his classmates.  (These are two of our neighbor girls who B's been friends with since kindergarten.)  B got to ride on the stretcher and the 4 girls with him, got the seats.

Best quotes from the experience.

B, when observing the 7 point seat belts in the ambulance, "I didn't know we were going to ride in a rocket."
One of the neighbor girls in response, "I didn't know Cornwall was on the moon."  (They had been told that their ambulance was headed to the hospital in Cornwall.)

One of the girls on the other girl's Facebook page, "And then we're in the ambulance and B is trying to figure out the chemical equation for Ammonium Chloride...lol."

In the end, everyone was fine and now they have a story to tell.
