Quick Trip

Due to R's work commitments this summer, we only had 4 days for a quick family vacation before the girls had to go back to school.  So, we headed off to MA.  We were only 2 1/2 hours from home but still had a wonderful time and got to see some new things.

The highlight of the trip for the kids was probably getting to swim.  They went swimming for 3 or more hours each of the days that they had the opportunity to do so.  The bad news is that I have no pictures of that.

We also visited the Norman Rockwell Museum, probably not the kids' favorite part of the trip but I was excited to get to see it.  Besides many of his paintings (several of which were done for the covers of the Saturday Evening Post, one section of the museum had a complete collection of all of the Saturday Evening Post covers that he illustrated.  It was fun to look at them all.  Here are some of my favorites.  I love the stories they tell.

 

 

 

 

This is a picture he painted of main street in Stockbridge, MA where he lived.

If you look closely and zoom in on the last picture, there is something strange on the porch roof.

We also went hiking one day at Mt. Greylock State Reservation.  We got to "hike for fun" going about 2.5 miles to a waterfall and then back. 

 

 Then we drove to the top of Mt. Greylock.  Now we can say we have been to the highest point in the state of Massachusetts.
