The last 4 months - Creating Art

When ever there is a lot to blog, I get behind because that also means that life is busy.  Since this blog is our family journal/history I needed to get caught up.  So, this is the first of 6 posts to catch up on what has happened in our house in the last 4 months.  I'll post the remainder of the updates over the next week or so.

The artists in our house were busy.

C's Spanish teacher had all of her students create a poster (in spanish) for the county Drug and Alcohol Poster contest.  C's poster was chosen as one of the 7th grade honorable mentions.
She was invited to attend the county award's ceremony where she was presented with a certificate and letter of congratulations.  What was especially fun is that all of the awardee's posters were put into a slide show and shown on the screen so that everyone in attendance could have a great view of everyone's posters.  They made a big deal out of having each awardee stand in front of their art work so that their parents could take a picture.

C and P also each made a poster for the Earth Day Poster Contest at our post recycling center.  It is hard to tell in the picture but P's world is made out of pieces that she tore out of magazines and then pieced together to look like the world.  I thought that was a clever way of representing the theme which was "make a world of difference".  P's poster won 3rd in her age group and she got a fun new water bottle.
C's poster won 1st place in her age category and she won $25.

A dear friend of ours/big brother to our kids got married in the Washington D.C. Temple in May. C decided that she wanted to make a picture of the temple for them.  She first found a photo on the internet to use as inspiration/guidance and then drew it herself and colored it with pastels.  The finished picture fit in an 8x10 frame.
