In the last 4 months, 2 people in our family celebrated birthday.
First in May, B turned 17. He isn't always cooperative with getting his picture taken but I was able to sneak a few.
This is my favorite picture. I had taken one of him with his cake and I didn't think it turned out very well so I said I need to take another one. He posed all perfectly and then just as I snapped it, he switched to this expression just to get me. I love it!
Then he posed for a real picture. The only person in our family who really likes cake is R, so the rest of us have started requesting ice-cream cakes that we make from scratch. This year, B's was an oreo cookie crust, a layer of chocolate ice-cream, chopped up Reese's peanut butter cups, a layer of peanut butter ice-cream and more chopped up Reese's peanut butter cups. It was delicious.
Next up was P who turned 9 in July.
She was super excited to get a Boogie Board, the high tech version of the old time black wax covered piece of cardboard with the plastic sheet over the top that you would write on and then lift up the plastic sheet to erase. She also got a bike, money (which she used, along with all her summer pet sitting earnings to buy walkie talkies), a fancy build-able hula hoop, and a couple of other little things.
P's cake was a new invention that turned out to be a bit of a flop. It had an Oreo cookie crust, then raspberry sherbet, a layer of chopped up Hershey bar and chocolate fudge, then a layer of orange sherbet topped with more crushed Oreos. The orange and raspberry sherbet weren't too good together so you had to eat it one layer at a time. Oh well. It is always an experiment and now we know.
